How We Work
- Our approach to garden design and installation begins with conversations about what you're hoping to accomplish. Instead of drawing plans out in a program or on a piece of paper we design gardens in person by standing in your garden with you and exploring together the myriad options. We use pictures to show you some of the things we're talking about and we sometimes draw ideas out directly on the ground. (We also wave our hands around a lot.)
- Our approach is unconventional but highly effective because we don't see gardens as squiggles on a flat piece of paper; we see gardens fully fleshed out in our imaginations and draw from decades of experience creating them. We're also inspired of course by exploring countless gardens that we didn't have a hand in creating. We share our ideas with you in ways that really help you understand what we're proposing and what can realistically be accomplished.
- Most often our gardens are intimate outdoor spaces that sometimes blur the lines between indoor and outdoor living. Our stonework is highly specialized and we do all of it ourselves with the help of some laborers. Custom fences, perennial gardens, ponds, fountains and tree care are among the many aspects of gardening that we enjoy and offer to our clients as needed. While our design work draws from many sources of inspiration it's still always going to come from our own creativity and experience.
- We are gardeners and refer to ourselves that way without reservation. We understand soil, we know how to prune roses and Japanese maples, we know which perennials will likely do well in your garden and which probably won't. We understand the complexities of fertilizing and why it's so important to stick to organics. We know and love mycelium. We do drip systems and garden lighting and pathways and fountains and pots full of flowers. And we love working with trees; the right trees in the right places are foundational to the beauty and success of a property and its gardens and we're all about them.
Irrigation
- Our experience has taught us that we can create the most beautiful garden imaginable but if it doesn't get watered properly it won't thrive and will most likely die out within a couple of years. We can build you an irrigation system from scratch or modify your existing one so that you're insured that your water is used efficiently and correctly and that your gardens are always healthy and beautiful.
